No details have been given to the public regarding exactly how much the new swine flu vaccine will cost. Recently, according to GlaxoSmithKline, another 149 million doses for the new vaccine Pandemrix have been ordered by various governments. Analysts have estimated that GSK will stand to make anywhere between $1,000,000,000 and $3,000,000,000 euros – and that is after they distribute 50 million doses at no cost to the World Health Organization. However, other analysts have pointed out that the real issue is how much these pharmaceutical companies will make in the long run, especially since “the outbreak is likely to put pressure on governments to stockpile treatments and vaccines,” according to a Panmure Gordon analyst.
The pharmaceutical companies involved have been extremely reluctant to distribute any information on expected profits from all of these government orders. For example, GSK has given a discount to the British Government, but will not say for how much. The Department of Health is being equally as silent on the matter, as divulging such information “violate confidentiality clauses in our contracts,” according to a DoH spokesman. Due to the lack of information regarding the financial figures for all of these orders, it is most of all unclear as to how much the taxpayer will have to pay.
Alongside GSK and the Department of Health, in this secrecy of swine flu economics, is the Swiss pharmaceutical company, Novartis. Nobody is certain which countries are getting deals and which are not, or how the contracts have been negotiated.

Documents released through the Freedom of Information Act show transcripts of a top secret meeting that occurred in June of 2000. A study was done by Dr. Thomas Verstraeten and his co-workers using cases from both the CDC’s National Immunization Program (NIP) and four HMOs. 110,000 children’s records were examined.
Dr. Orenstein validified the meeting “(For) those who don’t know, …” and stated that, “… mercury, as methylmercury (thimerosal) in vaccines, might exceed safe levels. As a result of these concerns, CDC undertook, in collaboration with investigators in the Vaccine safety Datalink, an effort to evaluate whether there were any health risks from mercury on any of these vaccines. Analysis to date raise some concerns of possible dose-response effect of increasing levels of mehylmercury in vaccines and certain neurologic diagnosis. Therefore, the purpose of this meeting is to have a careful scientific review of the data.”
The prevalence of mercury in vaccines is of such great concern that slightly over 100,000 children’s records were examined for life-threatening links.
Dr. Johnston, who served as the chair of the meeting, went on to say that, “Thimerosal is cleaved (in the body) into ethylmercury and thiosalicylate which is inactive… The data on its toxicity (shows) it can cause neurologic and renal toxicity, including death.”

Sebelius: Americans Must Get Swine Flu Vaccination

Secretary of Health and Human Services, Kathleen Sebelius, has deemed the new swine flu vaccine “safe and secure,” urging for widespread inoculation.
Sebelius has been stating that “The adverse effects are minimal.” Her only evidence backing up here bold claim that the vaccine is safe is that it “has been made exactly the same way as seasonal vaccine has been made.”
She has recently been on news shows such as CNN trying to put vaccine-wary parents at ease, and urging them to get their children vaccinated as they are the biggest target for this particular flu. Sebelius has claims that there will be plenty of vaccine to go around, and it is in the making right now ahead of schedule. Keep in mind that this “ahead of schedule” still means untested, and above all, rushed.
